- Keep it light. Quick number games in the car beat long drills at the table.
Calculators are not the enemy, and your child should learn to use them well. But they work best in the hands of someone who already understands the numbers. By keeping mental math alive in grades 3 through 5, you give your child both the tool and the wisdom to use it.
